Countdown to RBC GranFondo Whistler

On Saturday, September 8, 2012, as many as 7,000 cyclists will ride the spectacular journey along  Sea to Sky Highway 99 from Vancouver to Whistler in the third annual RBC GranFondo Whistler. An event of this magnitude will involve some closures along the event route.

Traffic modifications will be in effect and motorists that need to travel on September 8th are advised to plan ahead as there will be delays on some routes along the event course. Motorists are advised to use extra caution around cyclists and to obey all traffic control personnel.

The 122 km event starts on Georgia Street in downtown Vancouver and runs north along Sea to Sky Highway 99 to end in Whistler.

Emergency Vehicles will be given safe passage in the event of an emergency situation.

Spectators:

On the day of the event, spectators may view and support the cyclists along the route. Three designated Spectator Areas will be set up at the following locations.

Park Royal Mall and Overpass, West Vancouver. An exciting area to watch the riders will be from the Park Royal overpass, at the bottom of Taylor Way.

Garibaldi Mall, Squamish. The 55 km Medio event will start from Garibaldi Mall at 9:00am. Also, from 8:30am to 12noon, a complete market place will be set up with vendors and merchants from the Squamish Business Sector.

Olympic Celebration Plaza, Whistler. The first finisher is expected to cross the line in Whistler at approximately 10:15am. Families are encouraged to gather in Whistler to watch all riders finish. A full day of celebration will be held including live music, kids activities, food and beverage service, and a beer garden.
