Tuesday, June 26, 2012

On Saturday, September 8, 2012, as many as 7,000 cyclists are expected to ride the spectacular journey along the Sea to Sky Highway from Vancouver to Whistler in the third annual RBC GranFondo Whistler. The District of Squamish, known as the Outdoor Recreation Capital of Canada, marks the half-way point of the 122 km route and the start of the 55 km Medio event.

Event Route

In previous years, riders took a right turn at Loggers Lane, traveling for approximately 2 km before re-joining the Sea to Sky highway at Centennial Way. This year, the route will continue on highway 99 through Squamish to ensure a more enjoyable experience for both participants and the local community.

The following road closures will be in effect at east west crossings of Highway 99 in Squamish from 8:30am to noon on Saturday, September 8, 2012:

  • 8:30am to 8:45am. Intermittent delays.

Emergency Service Vehicles are exempt from all closures.

Squamish Highlights

Garibaldi Village Mall, located alongside highway 99, will be designated an official spectator area for people interested in cheering on the cyclists as they make their way north. People of all ages are encouraged to cheer on the cyclists at this location between 8:30am and noon. The 55 km Medio event will start from Garibaldi Mall at 9:00am.
