What is a GranFondo?

Gran Fondo's are mass participation cycling events that have enjoyed incredible popularity in Europe for decades and are beginning to gain momentum in North America. The 2010 RBC GranFondo Whistler was the first world-class Gran Fondo in Canada.

Loosely translated from Italian, Gran Fondo means "big ride". Rides are often 100 km or more for a large number of cyclists at a variety of skill levels - everyone from the competitive cyclist tothe amateur wanting to challenge themselves over distance and time enjoy these events. The rides are judged by the challenges they offer: steep climbs, long distances and a combination of the two. While these are not races, top finishers are often recognized.

Category Description

GranFondo - 122 km

For riders who want to challenge themselves at their own pace, the GranFondo category is the full 122 km at a self-set pace for recreational to advanced riders.

Medio - 60 km

For those riders who aren't quite ready for the full 122 km but still want to participate, the Medio is a lighter version of 60 km from Squamish to Whistler. Suitable for beginner to advanced riders.

Alta Classe Package GranFondo - 122 km

This is the VIP package for the GranFondo that allows you to enjoy the RBC GranFondo Whistler in a special way that gets you up close and personal with our riding celebrities and sponsors. No line ups, no hassles, no fuss, but all the fun. Package includes GranFondo registration.
