Countdown to RBC GranFondo Whistler - Notice to Ferry Travellers

On Saturday, September 8, 2012, as many as 7,000 cyclists will ride the spectacular journey along  Sea to Sky Highway 99 from downtown Vancouver to Whistler in the third annual RBC GranFondo Whistler.

Traffic modifications will be in effect and there will be impacts for motorists sailing on BC Ferries and disembarking at Horseshoe Bay between 6:00am – 9:00am on September 8th.

The east bound lanes of the Upper Levels Highway 1 will be closed to traffic from Horseshoe Bay to Taylor Way Blvd from 6:00am – 9:00am. For this period of the morning on September 8, eastbound motorists will be re-directed through West Vancouver along Marine Drive. Course marshals and signage will be in place to notify residents and direct riders.

These impacts will affect three sailings:

  • 6:20am ferry from Nanaimo.
  • 6:20am ferry from Langdale.
  • 5:30am, 6:30am and 7:30am ferry from Bowen Island.

Disembarking trucks from these ferries that are three axles or more and heading eastbound will be stacked on Highway 1 at Exit 0 until 9:00am.
